Introduction (5 Minutes)
- Begin the lesson by gathering the students in a circle.

- Show examples of artwork and point out the different elements as you discuss each one.
Direct Instruction (10 Minutes)

- Space: Talk about space in art, including foreground and background. Use simple diagrams to show the difference.
Guided Practice (5 Minutes)
- Lead the students in a short, collaborative activity.
- Ask them to identify lines, shapes, colors, textures, and space in a piece of displayed artwork.
- Encourage students to share their observations with the class.
Independent Practice (5 Minutes)
- Provide each student with a piece of white drawing paper and their choice of coloring tools.
- Instruct students to create their own artwork using all five elements of art discussed.
- Encourage creativity – students can draw anything they like but must include examples of each element.
Conclusion (5 Minutes)
- Have students share their artwork with a partner and describe how they used each of the elements of art.
- Discuss as a group how the elements helped make their artwork unique.
- Review the key points of the lesson: What are the elements of art and why are they important in creating art.
Assessment

- Collect artwork to assess understanding of the elements of art. Check that each student has included all five elements in their piece.
Extension Activities (Optional)

- Introduce famous artists and how they use the elements of art.
- Take a nature walk and have students identify elements of art in their surroundings.
Note: Adjust timing of activities as needed depending on class dynamics and student engagement.
