Objective

Introduction (5 minutes)

- Purpose: Explain that today's lesson will focus on the eight parts of speech, providing definitions and examples.
Direct Instruction (10 minutes)
- Nouns: Define nouns as words that name a person, place, thing, or idea. Example: dog, school, freedom.
- Pronouns: Explain pronouns as words that replace nouns. Example: he, she, it, they.
- Verbs: Describe verbs as action words or states of being. Example: run, is, think.
- Adjectives: Define adjectives as words that describe nouns. Example: happy, green, tall.
- Adverbs: Explain adverbs as words that modify verbs, adjectives, or other adverbs. Example: quickly, very, well.
- Prepositions: Describe prepositions as words that show the relationship between nouns (or pronouns) and other words. Example: under, before, during.
- Conjunctions: Define conjunctions as words that connect clauses or sentences. Example: and, but, or.
- Interjections: Explain interjections as words that express emotion. Example: wow, ouch, hey.
Guided Practice (10 minutes)
- Activity: Hand out sentences with highlighted words. Ask students to identify and label each word as one of the parts of speech.

Independent Practice (5 minutes)
