Lesson Outline

Introduction (5 minutes)

  1. Welcome the Students: Greet the students and explain the focus of today's lesson on colors.
  2. Discussion on Colors: Ask students to name their favorite colors and any colors they see in the classroom. Use a color wheel to visually discuss primary and secondary colors.

Direct Instruction (10 minutes)

  1. Explain Primary Colors: Introduce the primary colors (red, blue, yellow) and explain that these colors cannot be made by mixing others.
  2. Introduce Secondary Colors: Show how mixing primary colors creates secondary colors:
    • Red + Yellow = Orange
    • Blue + Yellow = Green
    • Red + Blue = Purple
  3. Demonstration: Use the paint on the mixing tray to demonstrate how to mix the colors properly while encouraging students to observe.

Guided Practice (10 minutes)

  1. Mixing Activity:
    • Divide the students into small groups.
    • Provide each group with the primary color paints and mixing trays.
    • Guide the students to mix their own secondary colors and discuss what they observe.
  2. Encourage Exploration: Allow students to experiment by mixing different proportions of colors and discovering new shades.

Independent Activity (5 minutes)

  1. Painting Time:
    • Provide students with white paper and ask them to create an artwork using the colors they have mixed.
    • Encourage them to use their imagination and express how they feel about each color.

Closure (5 minutes)

  1. Group Sharing: Invite students to share their artwork with the class.
    • Ask questions such as, “What colors did you mix?” and “What do you like about your painting?”
  2. Recap the Lesson: Reinforce the lesson by summarizing the primary and secondary colors, and ask students to think about how they see colors in everyday life.
