Objectives
By the end of this lesson, students will be able to:
- Identify and define the four types of sentences: declarative, interrogative, imperative, and exclamatory.
- Provide examples of each type of sentence.

Introduction (5 Minutes)
- Engage the Students: Ask the students if they know any different types of sentences. Write their responses on the board.
- Purpose of the Lesson: Explain that today they will learn about the four types of sentences, each serving a unique purpose in communication.
Direct Instruction (10 Minutes)
- Declarative Sentences:
- Definition: A statement that provides information or expresses an idea.
- Example: "The sky is blue."
- Interrogative Sentences:
- Definition: A sentence that asks a question.
- Example: "What time is it?"
- Imperative Sentences:
- Definition: A command or request.
- Example: "Please close the door."
- Exclamatory Sentences:
- Definition: A sentence that expresses strong emotion.
- Example: "I can't believe we won!"
Guided Practice (10 Minutes)
- Group Activity: Divide students into small groups and provide each group with a set of sample sentences.
- Sentence Sorting: Instruct the groups to categorize the sentences into the four types discussed. Encourage them to discuss their reasoning.
- Share Findings: After 5 minutes, have each group share one example from each type with the class.
Independent Practice (5 Minutes)
- Sentence Creation: Ask each student to write one original sentence for each type (declarative, interrogative, imperative, exclamatory) on their own paper.
- Encourage creativity!
- They can illustrate their sentences using colored pencils or markers.
Closing (3 Minutes)
- Review Key Points: Go over the four types of sentences once more.
- Homework Assignment: Instruct students to find one example of each type of sentence in a book or text they are currently reading and bring them to the next class.
