Weather is all around us! It includes everything we see in the sky and feel when we step outside. Weather can change from day to day, and sometimes even hour to hour! The sun, clouds, wind, rain, and snow all make up our weather.
When we talk about weather, we are talking about how hot or cold it is, if it is raining or shining, and whether or not the wind is blowing. That is why we always check the weather before going outside!
The sun is the star that shines in the sky and keeps us warm. It gives us light during the day and helps plants grow. On sunny days, we wear shorts and T-shirts because the sun makes things warm. But if we stay out too long in the sun without protection, we can get sunburned, so it's important to wear sunscreen or a hat!
Clouds are like cotton candy in the sky! They can look soft and fluffy or dark and scary. When clouds are white and fluffy, they might not bring rain. But when they are dark and heavy, it usually means a storm is coming.
There are different types of clouds:
Rain happens when clouds get filled with water drops. When the drops become too heavy, they fall to the ground as rain. Rain is very important because it gives water to plants and animals.
Sometimes, the rain can fall lightly, like a drizzle, or it can be heavy, like a thunderstorm! If you hear thunder, that means lightning is nearby, and it is best to stay inside until the storm passes.
In the winter, when it gets very cold, the rain can turn into snow. Snowflakes fall from the sky and cover everything in a beautiful white blanket. Snow is fun to play in! We can build snowmen, have snowball fights, and go sledding. Each snowflake is unique, which means no two snowflakes are exactly the same!
Wind is the air that moves around us. Sometimes we see it blowing leaves, but other times, we feel it on our skin. On windy days, we might fly kites or wear jackets to keep warm. Wind is important because it helps move clouds around and can even help airplanes fly!
Scientists use tools to measure weather. Here are a few tools they use:
Weather is an exciting topic that affects our everyday lives! From sunny days to rainy afternoons, every kind of weather has its own beauty and purpose. By learning about weather, we can be prepared for whatever nature brings our way. So, next time you step outside, take a moment to notice the weather and enjoy it!
