Good morning, class! Today, we are going to embark on a thrilling adventure all the way to Africa! Imagine lush landscapes filled with fascinating animals, from giant elephants to playful monkeys. Africa is home to some of the most amazing creatures on our planet, and we will use our imaginations to bring them to life through poetry!
Before we start writing, let’s warm up our minds with a few questions:
What African animals do you know?
Think about the ones you have seen in pictures or on television. Can you name a few?
How do these animals move?
Do they run, jump, or swim?
How do they sound?
What noises do they make? Can you imitate any of those sounds?
What colours do you see?
Are they bright and colourful, or are they more neutral and earthy?
After discussing, let’s sit in a circle and share one animal we love. I want you to think of two things:
Now that we have filled our heads with wonderful images and sounds, it’s time to create our own poems about African animals! 🌟
Remember, a poem can be silly, serious, or even a mix of both! It can rhyme, or it can be free verse, where you write without worrying about rhyming. Let's use our senses and observations from our discussion to write about the majestic creatures that roam Africa.
On your paper, I want you to write a short poem, maybe 4-6 lines, about your favourite African animal. Use your imagination! Here are some prompts to help you start:
Once you’re done, we’ll share our poems with the class. Who knows? Maybe we can create a class book of African animal poems!
Remember, poetry is a way to express what you feel and think about the world. Let your creative voices shine as brightly as the African sun!
Let’s gain inspiration from the wilderness and begin our poetic journey! 🦓✨
