Welcome to our exciting mathematics adventure, where we will explore the world of addition through a colorful balloon journey! This lesson is designed for our young mathematicians in Reception/Kindergarten as we learn to add numbers up to 20.
By the end of this lesson, students will be able to:
Gather the children in a circle.
“Good morning, everyone! Today, we are going on a Balloon Adventure!”
Tell a story: “Once upon a time, in a bright and sunny land, there was a joyous festival where everyone was going to the park to release balloons. Each person had a different number of balloons. Let’s find out how many balloons they had together!”
Visualise the story by showing colourful balloon images or real balloons:
Engage the Children:
“Who can help me find out how many balloons they have altogether?”
Invite all students to share any balloons they might have at home during the festival. They can draw their favourite balloon combination on the “Addition Adventure” worksheets at the end of the lesson.
“This was so much fun! We’ve learned how to add, just like Billy and Bella with their balloons! Next time, we will explore more exciting adventures in addition!”
Through storytelling, visuals, and hands-on activities, we've embarked on a delightful journey to learn about addition up to 20. Let's keep counting and adding as we continue our mathematical adventures! Happy adding, everyone!
Feel free to adapt and modify elements of this introduction to better fit your students’ needs and make the experience even more engaging!
