Tell a story: “Once upon a time, in a bright and sunny land, there was a joyous festival where everyone was going to the park to release balloons. Each person had a different number of balloons. Let’s find out how many balloons they had together!”

3. Show the Balloons:

Visualise the story by showing colourful balloon images or real balloons:

• “This is Balloon Billy who has 5 balloons!” (Hold up a representation of 5 balloons).
• “And here comes Balloon Bella with 3 balloons!” (Hold up another representation of 3 balloons).

“Who can help me find out how many balloons they have altogether?”
