To introduce young learners to the concept of self-awareness by helping them recognize their own feelings, preferences, and unique characteristics.
Setup: Create a cozy space in the classroom with a large, colorful rug where all the children can sit in a circle.
Begin the lesson by welcoming the children with a warm smile and inviting them to sit in a circle. Explain that today, they will embark on an exciting adventure to discover more about themselves!
Present a series of emotion cards (happy, sad, excited, scared, etc.) in front of the class.
Transition into a brief discussion about the concept of self-awareness.
Explain: “Being aware of ourselves means understanding not just how we feel but also what we like and what makes us special!”
Activity: Hand out a simple "All About Me" worksheet where they can draw a picture of themselves and write down or dictate to you three things they like (e.g., favorite color, favorite food, or favorite activity).
Invite children one by one to share their drawings and what they wrote/dictated.
Wrap up the activity by reinforcing the message that being aware of our feelings and what makes us unique helps us understand ourselves better and connect with others. Encourage the children to think about these aspects throughout the lesson and remind them that self-awareness is an important part of growing up!
Transition: “Now that we’ve learned a bit about ourselves, let’s dive deeper into understanding our feelings and how to express them!”
