Creative Lesson Introduction: The Engineering Challenge

Setting the Scene

Imagine stepping into a world where you are not just a student, but an engineer ready to tackle some exciting challenges! Today, we are going to embark on a journey into the realm of engineering—a field where creativity meets problem-solving. But to kick off our lesson, we're going to play a quick game called "The Great Egg Drop!"

The Great Egg Drop Challenge

Objective

Your mission is to design and build a protective structure that will keep a raw egg safe from breaking when dropped from a height of at least 6 feet.

Materials Needed

Rules of the Challenge

  1. Team Up! Split into groups of 3-4 students.
  2. Brainstorm: Spend 10 minutes discussing design ideas. Remember, your goal is to protect the egg!
  3. Build: You’ll have 20 minutes to construct your egg protector using the materials provided.
  4. Test Drop: Once your egg is secured, we’ll take all the structures to a designated drop zone. Each group will drop their creation from the height of 6 feet to see if it survives!

Discussion Questions

After the drop, we’ll reconvene as a class to discuss:

Conclusion

By participating in this engaging activity, you’ll get a hands-on experience of what it means to be an engineer. Engineering is all about creativity, teamwork, and the willingness to learn from failure.

Are you ready to become an engineer for the day? Let's get started! 🥚🚀
