Back to School Activities: An Exciting Start to the Year

Introduction to the Lesson

Welcome to a brand new school year, seventh graders! To kick things off, we're going to embark on an exciting journey that will help us connect, collaborate, and create lasting memories. Today’s lesson will focus on engaging back to school activities that encourage teamwork, creativity, and self-expression.

Icebreaker Activity: "Mystery Backpack"

Objective

To increase familiarity among classmates and foster a sense of community in our classroom.

Instructions

  1. Preparation:

    • Before class, ask each student to bring a backpack filled with three personal items that represent them. These might include a favorite book, a unique gadget, a photo, or a hobby-related item.
  2. Group Formation:

    • Divide the class into small groups of 4-5 students.
  3. Sharing Round:

    • Each student takes turns reaching into their backpack (without showing the others) and pulling out one item.
    • They should describe the item without revealing what it is, allowing their group members to guess what the item is.
  4. Discussion:

    • After guessing, the student reveals the item and shares a short story or reason why it represents them.
    • Encourage groups to ask questions to deepen their understanding of each other.
  5. Group Presentations:

    • Once everyone has had a turn, each group will select one item that they found most interesting and share it with the whole class, explaining why it stood out to them.

Conclusion

This activity not only helps reduce any first-day jitters but also allows us to learn more about one another in a fun and interactive way. By the end of this lesson, you'll not only know more about your classmates, but you will also have started building a supportive community in our classroom.

Let the new school year begin with openness, laughter, and a sense of adventure!
