Show a few colorful counting blocks or toys.
“Look at these magical treasures! Each one has a special job, and today, they’re going to help us understand a new friend — Addition!”
Start telling a simple story:
“Once upon a time in the Land of Numbers, there lived two happy little bunnies named Benny and Bella. One sunny day, Benny found 2 shiny apples and Bella found 3 delicious carrots. They wanted to see how many tasty treats they had together!”
As you narrate, hold up the blocks to represent the apples and carrots.
“Can you help me add them together? Let’s count them one by one! (Count out loud: 1, 2, and then add 3 more: 3, 4, 5). Wow! Benny and Bella have 5 yummy snacks!”
Invite the children to join in the fun!
“Now, let’s try it ourselves! Everyone take 2 blocks and 3 blocks from the pile. How many do we have if we combine them? Count with me!”
Allow the children to physically combine their blocks and count out loud.
