Hello, little adventurers! Today, we are going to go on a word hunt! High-frequency words, or HFWs, are like magical keys that unlock the door to reading. These are special words that we see a lot when we read stories. Can you think of some words that we see all the time?
Introduction: Gather all the students in a circle. Explain the importance of high-frequency words in reading. Tell them that by learning these words, they will be able to read stories all by themselves!
The Hunt Begins: Hand out the flashcards with HFWs to each child and explain that they will be looking for those words around the classroom.
Set the Scene: Create excitement by saying, “Today, we’re not just learning; we are going on a word scavenger hunt! Can you find your HFWs hidden in books, on the walls, or even in our supplies?”
Group Work: As a class, go around the room searching for the words. When a child finds their word, they can yell “Hooray!” and add it to our big paper where we will list all the high-frequency words we find.
Wrap Up: After the hunt, gather together and discuss which words were easiest to find and why it’s important to know them.
Celebrate the words you found together. By working as a team, you’ve gathered the magical keys that will open the door to many stories! Remember, the more we practice these high-frequency words, the better readers we will become. Let's keep our eyes open for these words in our everyday life!
Are you ready to become word warriors? Let’s start our adventure in reading! 🚀
