Subject: English

Lesson duration: 60 minutes

Target students: Preschool students aged 2-3

Objectives:

Materials:

Procedure:

  1. Introduction (5 minutes)

    • Begin the lesson by asking the students if they remember what they did yesterday. Encourage them to share their activities in simple sentences.
    • Explain to the students that yesterday is an example of the past tense - it's a way to talk about things that happened before now.
  2. Storytelling (20 minutes)

    • Read a picture book with a story in the past tense to the students. Pause often to ask questions about the story, and prompt the students to identify the past tense verbs in the sentences.
    • After reading the book, encourage the students to retell the story in their own words, using past tense verbs.
  3. Verb Flashcards (15 minutes)

    • Show the students flashcards with verbs in the past tense (e.g. ran, jumped, played). Use the whiteboard to write the verbs and their past tense forms.
    • Play a game where the students act out the verbs on the flashcards (e.g. pretend to run, jump or play with a toy car or doll).
  4. Playtime (15 minutes)

    • Encourage the students to practice using the past tense by playing with toy cars or dolls. Ask them to describe what they're doing in the past tense as they play (e.g. "I drove the car", "I put the doll to bed")
  5. Conclusion (5 minutes)

    • Review the concept of past tense with the students, and ask them to give examples of past tense verbs they learned.
    • Encourage the students to continue practicing using the past tense in their speech, and remind them that using correct grammar is important for effective communication.

Assessment:

Throughout the lesson, observe the students' participation in the activities and their use of past tense verbs. Provide feedback and praise for correct use of the past tense, and offer correction and suggestions for improvement as needed.
