30 minutes

Objectives

Materials Needed

Introduction (5 minutes)

  1. Begin with a Discussion:

    • Ask students what they think teamwork means and why it is important.
    • Allow a few students to share their thoughts.
  2. Explain the Activity:

    • Introduce the main activity: a teamwork challenge called "The Human Knot."
    • Explain that this activity focuses on communication and working together to solve a problem.

Activity Instructions (20 minutes)

The Human Knot (15 minutes)

  1. Forming Groups:

    • Divide the class into small groups of 6-8 students.
    • Ensure students mix well and include different friendship groups.
  2. Setting Up:

    • Instruct each group to stand in a circle, shoulder to shoulder, facing inward.
    • Each student should extend their right hand and grab the hand of someone across the circle.
    • Now, they should do the same with their left hand, grabbing the hand of a different person.
  3. The Challenge:

    • The aim is for the group to untangle themselves without letting go of each other's hands.
    • They must work together, communicate effectively, and respect each other's physical space.
    • Set a timer for 10 minutes and encourage groups to strategise their movements.

Reflection and Discussion (5 minutes)

  1. Group Reflection:
    • After the challenge, bring the class back together.
    • Ask each group to share their experience: What worked well? What was challenging?
    • Discuss why teamwork is essential and how they can apply teamwork skills in their daily lives.
