Imagine standing in the heart of a bustling city, the sounds of honking cars and chattering crowds enveloping you like a thick blanket. Now, close your eyes and picture a city so enormous that its skyline glitters with hundreds of skyscrapers, and its population is larger than some countries! Welcome to the world of megacities.
To kick off our lesson on megacities, we are going to start with a fun and engaging activity: The Megacity Challenge!
Gather in Groups: Form small groups of 4-5 students.
City Building: Each group will receive a large sheet of paper and coloured markers. Your task is to create your own fictional megacity, incorporating the following elements you might find in a real megacity:
Present Your City: After 15 minutes, each group will present their megacity to the class. Be prepared to explain the unique features and functions of your city!
While you work on your cities, think about the following questions which will guide our lesson on megacities:
After the activity, we will discuss what you've learned from designing your megacities and how they relate to our understanding of real-world megacities. This will set the stage for today's in-depth exploration of megacities around the globe! Let’s get started!
