In today’s digital era, screen time has become a significant part of our daily routine. Our students took a moment to reflect on their screen habits, sharing insights about how much time they spend daily on their devices, whether on mobile phones or computers. Here are some sample responses.
"I spend around 6 hours a day on my phone and computer. Most of it is dedicated to schoolwork like research and assignments. However, I also find time to scroll through social media and watch videos on platforms like TikTok and YouTube. I try to limit my usage on weekends, but it's hard to resist distractions."
"On average, I am in front of a screen for about 8 hours a day. This includes school classes—virtually—and gaming in the evening. Although I enjoy playing with friends online, I sometimes feel that it takes away time from other activities, like reading or exercising. I've been trying to balance my time better, but it's challenging."
"My daily screen time fluctuates between 4 to 5 hours. I use my laptop for homework and online classes, but I also make sure to stay connected with my friends through messaging apps. I set limits for myself on weekdays to focus on school, but I definitely binge-watch shows on the weekend!"
"I track my screen time, and it usually averages around 10 hours daily. Between online schooling and recreational use, it's easy to lose track of how much time I'm spending. I recently decided to cut my screen time down by setting specific limits for each platform I use. I want to ensure I'm still engaging in offline activities."
"I think I spend about 3 to 4 hours in front of screens. Most of my time is spent on my tablet, doing homework and playing games. I love drawing and sometimes wish I could do it more on paper instead of a screen. However, I appreciate the creativity that apps provide."
"I usually spend around 7 hours in front of a screen on days when I have school. I focus on my studies, but I also like to unwind by playing video games or watching movies in the evening. I've started to notice how tired my eyes feel, which has made me think about limiting my screen time."
"On weekdays, I use screens for about 5 hours, mainly for studying and catching up on assignments. On weekends, this can go up to 8 or 9 hours as I binge-watch entire seasons of shows. I try to incorporate outdoor activities to balance it out, but sometimes, it’s hard to resist getting lost in a good story."
The reflections from our students reveal a diverse range of screen time habits. While many rely on their devices for educational purposes, there is a strong inclination towards leisure activities that often extend their usage. As we navigate this digital landscape, it is essential to strike a balance between screen time and other fulfilling offline experiences. Encouraging healthier habits can foster a more balanced lifestyle, enhancing both academic success and personal well-being.
