Today, we will explore the wonderful concept of teachability! By the end of this lesson, you will understand what it means to be teachable and how it helps us learn from others and each other.
Mirrors and Reflection
Begin the lesson by gathering the students in a circle around the magic mirror. Ask each student to take a brief look into the mirror and think about something they have learned from someone else.
Prompt Questions:
Invite a few students to share their thoughts.
Write It Down
On the whiteboard or chart paper, write down answers and phrases the students share. You can categorize them under two headings: "People Who Teach Us" and "What We Learn From Them."
Reveal the Lesson's Theme
After gathering their ideas, explain that just like how we learn from each other, it’s important to be open and teachable. Use this moment to introduce the word teachability.
Discussion: Being a Good Listener
Transition into a discussion about how being teachable means being a good listener and being curious. Ask the students:
Crafting the "Teachable Tree"
To conclude your warm-up, explain that just like a tree grows and learns from the sun and water, we can grow from learning. Each student will create a leaf for our "Teachable Tree" later in the lesson, on which they will write down one way they can show they are teachable.
Now that we warmed up our minds, it’s time to dive into some reading! We’ll read a story together that highlights the importance of being teachable. Remember, every time we read a new story, we are learning!
Let’s open our books and find out how the characters in our story learn from each other and grow! 🌳📚
This creative beginning sets an engaging tone for the lesson on teachability while promoting participation, reflection, and discussion among Year 2 students.
