G’day, young explorers! Today we're going on a fun adventure in the land of maths, where we’ll meet our new friends: fractions. But before we dive in, let’s warm up our brains with an exciting game that will help us understand what fractions are all about!
Create Your Pizza: Using your large piece of paper, draw a big circle to represent a pizza. Use your markers to decorate it with your favourite toppings—like pepperoni, mushrooms, or even anchovies (if you dare!).
Cut It Up: Now, let’s cut your pizza into equal slices. You can decide how many slices you want—maybe 4, 6, or even 8 slices!
Distribute the Slices: Here comes the fun part! Share your pizza slices with your friends. Count how many pieces you have and how many pieces each friend gets.
As you shared your pizza, you were sharing parts of a whole! This is what we call a fraction. For instance, if you had 8 slices and you kept 2, you kept 2 out of 8 slices, which is written as 2/8!
After our fun pizza party, we’ll explore more about fractions and learn how they work! We’ll play games, draw fraction shapes, and even get to the bottom of what it means to have half, a quarter, and more!
Put on your explorer hats and let’s journey deeper into the delicious world of fractions! 🥳🍕
