Welcome back to math class, we hope you're ready for another exciting lesson! Today we're going to be talking about an incredibly important concept in math: weight.
Before you can understand weight, you need to understand a little bit about mass. Mass is the amount of matter in an object, while weight is the force of gravity acting on that object. So, if you were to take an object and go to the moon, it would still have the same mass, but it would weigh less because there is less gravity on the moon!
So, how do we measure weight? We use a unit called the Newton (N). Another common unit of weight you might know is the pound (lb), but we will be using the Newton in our calculations today.
Now that we have a basic understanding of weight and how it's measured, it's time to practice! We'll be giving you some examples of objects and their weights in Newtons, and we want you to try to calculate their weight in other units.
Great job today, everyone! You're really starting to get the hang of weight and how it's measured. Keep practicing and we'll see you next class!
