Lesson Outline

Introduction (5 Minutes)

• Greeting and Warm-up
  • Welcome students to class and explain that today’s focus is on movement.
  • Lead a brief warm-up to get the students moving. Include simple stretches and light jogging in place.

Direct Instruction (5 Minutes)

• What is Movement?
  • Discuss with students what movement means. Ask them questions such as:
    • What does it mean to move?
    • Can you name different ways to move?
  • Introduce different types of movements such as walking, running, jumping, and skipping.

Guided Practice (10 Minutes)

• Movement Relay Activity
  • Divide the class into small groups and set up a series of cones or markers.
  • Explain the relay race instructions:
    1. Students will take turns moving from one cone to the next using different types of movements (e.g., skip, hop, crawl).
    2. Each student should demonstrate a different type of movement when it’s their turn.
  • Allow groups to practice for a few minutes and then time each group to see who completes the course the fastest.

Independent Practice (5 Minutes)

• Movement Freeze Game
  • Play some music and have students move around the space freely.
  • When the music stops, students must freeze in their pose.
  • Call out different movements (jumping, crouching, etc.), and have students demonstrate the movements while the music plays again.

Closing (5 Minutes)

• Cool Down and Reflection
  • Gather students in a circle for a cool-down. Lead them in some gentle stretching to relax their muscles.
  • Ask students to sit for a moment and think about the different ways they moved today.
  • Facilitate a brief discussion by asking:
    • What was your favorite movement?
    • How does moving help our bodies?
    • Why do you think movement is important?

Assessment

• Observe student participation during the Relay Activity and Movement Freeze Game to assess understanding of various movements.
• Engage students in discussion during Closing to check for comprehension of the lesson objectives.

Extension

• Encourage students to practice different movements at home or during recess.
• Introduce the concept of dance as a fun form of movement in future lessons.
