Good morning class! Before we dive into our lesson on the Articles of Confederation, let's begin with a little puzzle. I have a large image of a famous painting, covered in puzzle pieces. In this puzzle, there are clues related to the Articles of Confederation. Who will be the first student to solve the puzzle, and uncover our topic for today's lesson?
Each student is given a specific puzzle piece and must work together to figure out where their piece fits into the final image. Some pieces will have a clue or a question related to the Articles of Confederation, which the group must answer in order to earn the final piece of the puzzle.
Once the puzzle is complete, we will uncover the image of the Articles of Confederation and talk about how this document came to be. Did you know that the Articles were the first attempt at a national constitution for the United States? We will discuss the strengths and weaknesses of the Articles, and how they ultimately led to the creation of the Constitution.
Today we pieced together the puzzle of the Articles of Confederation and learned about the beginnings of our national government. Keep in mind how the strengths and weaknesses of the Articles influenced the writing of the Constitution, as we will be exploring that document in more detail during our next lesson.
