Warm-Up (5 minutes)
Briefly discuss the importance of warming up the muscles before swimming
Lead the class in a group warm-up consisting of arm and leg stretches
Have students practice kicking drills in the pool to further warm up
Technique Instruction (10 minutes)
Review the proper technique and form for swimming backstroke
Demonstrate the correct positioning of arms, hands, and legs
Practice the technique by having students stand in a line on the pool deck and mimick the arm and leg movements of the backstroke
Instruct the students to pay attention to the correct form and to maintain a slow and steady pace
Skill Building (10 minutes)
Have students pair up and practice the backstroke in the pool
Walk around and provide individual instruction and feedback
Encourage students to focus on form and technique rather than speed
Fun Challenge (5 minutes)
Challenge students to a relay race competition where they swim backstroke
Divide the class into two teams
The first student on each team will swim backstroke across the pool and then tag the next teammate to do the same
The first team to complete the relay wins
Cool Down (5 minutes)
Lead the class in a group cool down consisting of arm and leg stretches
Discuss the importance of cooling down after exercise to prevent injuries
Have students exit the pool slowly to allow their bodies to gradually adjust to the change in temperature
Conclusion
Recap the lesson objectives that were achieved
Encourage students to continue practicing and honing their backstroke technique
Remind them of the importance of swimming safely and responsibly at all times
