Goal
The goal of this course is to introduce 6th-grade students to the art of storytelling, and enable them to create their own compelling stories in English. The course will focus on developing their communication skills, enhancing their vocabulary, and enhancing their creative thinking abilities.
Aims
At the end of the course, students will be able to:
- Understand the elements of a story and how to create a plot
- Develop their writing skills in English
- Use descriptive language to make stories more vivid and engaging
- Present their stories effectively using voice modulation and body language
- Receive and deliver constructive feedback on their work
Course Structure
Module 1: Introducing Storytelling (Lessons 1-5)
- Understanding the purpose of stories
- Identifying the key elements of a story
- Creating a plot and the story arc
- Storytelling techniques - using voice modulation, facial expressions and body language
- Practice activity - Retelling a known story
Module 2: Writing Your Own Story (Lessons 6-15)
- Writing a compelling opening
- Developing characters and their backstory
- Creating conflict and resolution
- Use of descriptive language to make stories more engaging

Module 3: Editing and Refining Your Story (Lessons 16-20)
- Techniques to edit and refine the story

- Checking for grammar/spelling mistakes

Module 4: Presenting Your Story (Lessons 21-25)
- Vocal delivery techniques - pitch, pace, emphasis
- Body language and facial expressions

Module 5: Folktales and Fables (Lessons 26-30)
- Understanding what is a folktale or fable
- Examples from different cultures
- Techniques to retell folktales or fables
