Course Plan: Getting to Know You - Year 2 Music
Introduction
Welcome to the "Getting to Know You" music course for Year 2 students! This course aims to explore music as a means of self-expression and connection. Through six engaging lessons, students will learn about different instruments, cultural sounds, and the importance of music in our lives. By fostering a joyful environment, we hope to encourage creativity and collaboration among peers.

Module 1: Introduction to Music and Instruments
Lesson 1: All About Sounds
- Objective: Identifying and discussing different types of sounds.
- Activities:
- Listening to different sound clips (e.g., nature sounds, musical notes).
- Group discussions on what sounds the students like or dislike.
Lesson 2: Instrument Exploration
- Objective: Introducing various musical instruments.
- Activities:
- Show-and-tell of classroom instruments (e.g., tambourines, xylophones).
- Exploring sounds produced by each instrument.
- Group activity: creating a "sound map" of their favourite instruments.
Module 2: Music from Around the World
Lesson 3: Musical Cultures
- Objective: Learning about music from different cultures.
- Activities:
- Listening to music from different countries (e.g., drumming from Africa, harps from Ireland).
- Discussing how music varies across cultures and what emotions it can evoke.
Lesson 4: Create Your Own World Music

- Activities:
- Students work in groups to create a short piece of music inspired by a culture studied.
- Presenting their music pieces to the class.
Module 3: Expressing Ourselves Through Music

Conclusion
