Exciting Maths Adventure: The Treasure Hunt!

Introduction

Welcome to our Maths lesson today, Year 4! Are you ready for an exciting adventure? We’re going to embark on a Treasure Hunt that will help us explore the wonderful world of numbers, shapes, and patterns. Grab your explorer's hat and your trusty map, because it's time to solve some fun maths challenges!

Lesson Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to:

The Treasure Hunt Setup

Step 1: The Map

As we begin, I want you to imagine we’ve discovered an ancient treasure map! This map is filled with various locations, each containing a mathematical challenge.

Step 2: Groups of Explorers

You will work in small teams of 4-5 explorers. Each team will receive a Treasure Map with different locations. At each location, there will be a maths problem that you need to solve to earn a clue that will help you find the treasure!

Step 3: The Challenge

Each location on the map will include one of the following challenges:

  1. The Addition Cave: Solve an addition problem to find out how many gold coins are hidden!

    • Example: “If there are 27 gold coins in the cave and 18 more are added, how many gold coins are there in total?”
  2. The Shape Forest: Identify the shape that matches the properties given.

    • Example: “I have 4 equal sides and 4 equal angles. What shape am I?”
  3. The Pattern Valley: Recognise and create a number or shape pattern.

    • Example: “Complete this pattern: 2, 4, 6, , . What comes next?”

The Grand Finale

Once your team solves all the challenges and collects all the clues, you will piece them together to reveal the location of the hidden treasure!

Step 4: Concluding the Adventure

At the end of the lesson, we will regroup to share the treasures you’ve found and reflect on the maths strategies you used during the adventure. What did you find the most challenging? What strategies helped you work together as a team?

Ready, Set, Go!

Are you excited, Year 4? Let’s set off on our Maths Treasure Hunt and discover the wonders of mathematics together! Remember, curiosity and teamwork are your most valuable tools in this adventure. Happy hunting! 🗺️✨
